After a fun experiment with making eyeshadow last Fall, I decided I might as well take a swing at making my own creme blush and bronzer sticks...couldn't be that hard right?!
The good news is: It's super easy! The materials I purchased for this project cost under $50 with Amazon Prime and made 4 blush and bronzer sticks with shea butter left over for other projects. Alternatively you could up-cycle old chapstick containers or makeup tins as well as utilizing unused eyeshadows for pigmentation.
Cosmetic grade micas are relatively inexpensive materials and you don't need a lot of product to create A LOT of color. I prefer buying sample packs with tiny pots of lots of colors instead of one big pot of one color--the price is usually the same but I prefer the variety especially for projects like this. It's super easy to create your own blush/bronzer colors using a range of brown to pink pigments or eyeshadows. Choose a pearlescent mica to create a highlighter stick or brighter colors like violet or hot pink for your spring makeup routine.
Here's what you'll need :
Coconut Oil
Rose Oil or your preferred face oil (optional)
Double Broiler
Spoons or Cosmetic Spatula
Cut the shea butter into small 1" cubes and place into a double broiler with the coconut oil and mica pigment. I combined three 1" cubes of shea butter, one table spoon of coconut oil and a 3 gram jar of pigment in each tube pour. Experiment with the ratios to increase the pigmentation and customize your own shade. Stir consistently until your mix is smooth and the shea butter has melted completely. Spoon the melted mixture into a clean deodorant stick or roll up tube and set on a level surface to cool. Don't try rolling up or using the stick until the mixture has had a chance to set.
Have an empty makeup compact? That works too--especially if you have extra bronzer left over! Once the stick has hardened ( I threw mine in the freezer to speed up the process) you can cap the bronzer or blush stick and toss in your makeup bag!

Use the tube to apply directly to your face or use a makeup brush to apply and blend into your cheek contour. Don't you just love that subtle shimmer and glow!?
If you have a face primer you use regularly you might consider adding that into your mix for longer wear...personally I wear so little makeup now all I want is a little color and lots of moisture!
Hot Tip:
Don't leave these sticks in the sun or the car--they will melt and stain fabrics! I learned the hard way!
